Metal Gear Solid 4

Metal Gear Solid 4 has arrived, some people will love it, some people will hate it. I, for one, am a fan of the series.

I remember playing a demo of Metal Gear Solid on PlayStation 1 many years ago, I had never played anything like it before, the way it opened up like a movie, the gameplay was clever, the mix of sneaking and action was well balanced and the demo ended with a cliffhanger cutscene… I was hooked and wanted more… needless to say it was a game I purchased and played multiple times.

So, what does MGS4 and …

The Conduit preview

I posted a technology demo video for Conduit a while ago. Since then a couple of videos showcasing the actual gameplay have appeared, and I’ve included one below.

When you watch the video, remember the game is coming to the Nintendo Wii. Yes the textures are a touch low res, and there aren’t as many polygons as you can see in games like Call of Duty 4 but still - this is a huge achievement. The only thing the video doesn’t show is how much fun there is in the game.

New DS First Person Shooter : C.O.R.E

A new first person shooter on the DS? Excellent.

Metroid Prime Hunters is the best first person shooter game on the diminutive console and there haven’t been many others. Call of Duty was pretty good but the controls were a touch twitchy and the ai was conspicuous in it’s absence. Obviously we can’t tell what the controls are like when looking at a video but my fingers are crossed.

Apparently the game has…

Mysterious atmosphere intensified by heavy music and advanced graphic solutions
14 big shocking and breathtaking levels
20 different enemies ranging from insane marines and mad scientists to big deadly mutants.
There are 8 …

Call of Duty: World at War - first trailer

Yes, it’s another Call of Duty game, they seem to be turning into a yearly event now.

No, it’s not a chronological “sequel” to Modern Warfare.

Yes, it’s back in World War II

World at War is running on the same engine as COD4 so looks lovely. I suspect that this is part of the reason for the accelerated dev cycle too.

I suspect it will feature plenty of story based interactive cut scenes and killing of bad guys.

Assassins Creed

This is a game I was looking forward to for some time. The previews looked simply stunning and having loved the Prince of Persia games previously I couldn’t think of any better follow up (apart from the new, recently announced, Prince of Persia trilogy).

This is quite a negative way to start a review. The game is good, very good, and I had high expectations, but unfortunately the bad parts stand out too much to ignore, so I’ll start with them.

Assassins Creed sees you taking the role of a (potential spoiler alert) kidnapped man who was once a killer for hire. …
