I’ve already reviewed one Hidden Object game and my girlfriend showed interest in it, so I got her a game that she could review. She didn’t fancy actually writing the review so she’s given me some notes to write one up for her. Rest assured she will proofread everything to make sure it’s her opinion :)

The game in question is Big City Adventure - San Francisco. Jo chose this game after she saw me playing the previously reviewed The Magicians Handbook: Cursed Valley. She wanted something similar that wasn’t so darkly themed so San Fran it was.

The game is another of the many Hidden Object style games that you have become so popular in recent years.

Big City AdventureThe main things Jo liked are the wonderful art style, and the informative facts about San Francisco that you’re given between each level. The items and levels are drawn wonderfully, but they objects are often quite easy to find and the time limits, combined with the bonuses, remove much of the challenge for older players.

The game started off very enjoyable but as you progress you end up returning to previously searched areas again (and again, and again etc), and since the items don’t change a huge amount you tend to end up finding the same things repeatedly.

Big City AdventureAs well as the main game there are a few simpler games every three levels or so. These are variations on colour matching games such as Bejewelled. Unfortunately the mini games have none of the charm and require none of skill of their parent game, instead becoming a bit of a chore, and are largely the reason why Jo didn’t continue and complete the game.

Big City Adventure : San Francisco, starts off very well, and the hidden object parts are enjoyable. Unfortunately it’s let down by the repetitiveness of the levels, and the lacklustre mini games which detract from what would otherwise have been a great game. Younger gamers will most likely love the cartoony atmosphere and simple fun, but older gamers will likely find it a little too easy.
