Woo, finished Akuji The Demon

A while ago I got hold of a cool freeware platform game called Ajuki The Demon (it's Japanese).  You are a vampire and you have to progress through the levels by gaining extra powers metroid-style.  The extra powers are varied and add a lot to what would otherwise be a simple platform game.  There are lots of different enemies that need different tactics to dispatch and you also have to pickup skulls along the way, although I'm not sure what for - points I think.

akujiThe graphics are blocky retro pixel-art style and are really nicely done, with great level graphics and backgrounds.  Sounds are simple but effective and there isn't any music.

The game has various signs that tell you what to do but they are all in Japanese unless you intall the English patch that comes with the game (if you use the link above).  I actually played the whole game to just before the end with the Japanese text but I couldn't figure out the last bit, so went hunting for the patch in order to read the hint signs.

Anyway, I really enjoyed this game, and so did my 5 year-old son.  It's a classic platformer, so do yourself a favour and download it today.
