Webgame Wednesday : Warfare 1917

Warfare 1917 is a simple concept beautifully put together.

In essence it's a strategy game. You have to recruit troops and send them to battle to beat the enemy forces. To avoid favouritism you can choose from either the English and German armies. Once you've picked a side you have to get some of your forces from one side of the battle field to the other - sounds simple but you have to get your army into, and out of, the trenches.

Like many of these types of games you earn credits which can be spent upgrading your abilities. This will open up new characters, more powerful weapons and, eventually, tanks.

The game has a really gritty dirty feel. Seeing the soldiers get hurled sky high from a mortar bomb/ grenade is not something you see very often in free flash games, certainly not ones that are trying to be realistic, but in Warfare 1917 it will happen all the time and feels right.

There is a certain amount of tactics involved with which units get sent to which set of trenches but really it's all down to timing. It's well worth looking at other parts of the level to make sure there is nothing coming for you, and making use of the various air support options you have. Unfortunately things become quite easy once you have the tank but that doesn't stop the earlier levels from being rather "moreish".

Play Warfare 1917 now and let me know what you think in the comments.
