The more observant amongst you will note that this weeks issue of Webgame Wednesday has been published on Thursday. This is for two reasons. 1) Binary Joy had some server issues so was down when I wanted to write the article and 2) Whilst the site was down I started playing Zelda, and when it came back I continued playing Zelda. I apologise for any "inconvenience" this may have caused.
Too many Ninjas is a bizarre game. The massive retro style pixels in a chaotic combination of colours, all fighting for your attention, but then the animation is wonderfully smooth.
The gameplay is simple and incredibly old school, in no small part influenced by the bright purple ninja flinging death stars the size of your head at you.
Your objective? Shield yourself from the deathstars killing the ninjas in the process... but watch out. There may be too many!
Controls are simple. Use the arrows to block the oncoming destruction. Note that you can do key combinations (up and right for example) to block a wider range of possibilities. The game starts off quite challenging, but the low barrier to entry and the quick and easy replay value stick it slap bang in the middle of the "one more go", type of game.
It's fiendishly addictive and well worth 10 (or 20?) minutes of your time - but it won't be for everyone.

Haha, what an interesting concept... it's is bizarre and fun for a while, but then I realize that I could be playing Fancy Pants or Capoeria Fighter instead.
I'm sure it'll suit some retro-game lovers out there. But the lack of control is a bit of a turn off. Didn't stop me from killing 39 ninjas though! Wonder what your best record is....
I love Webgame Wednesdays, because it doesn't rely on you owning the game in question and you can play what's being written about.
Pretty cool little game, but i must admit i'm suckered in by anything Commodore 64ish.
Also for a game writer, being late due to playing Zelda is completely acceptable... You didn't have to come up with the dodgy server excuse HAHA
Carly,
Daniel - indeed, it's a very different type of game. Like most flash games it's no more than a distraction but I like it. I applaud games that try different things. FWIW I love Fancy Pants but think Capoeria fighter is a bit rubbish.
Carly - I like that they're free too
And the server issues was a genuine excuse... but it didn't take much to get pulled into Zelda again.
*gasp* You blasphemed against the great Spiritonin! Lol, well to each his own. I love CF3, can't wait till he releases the full one, but I'll still drop by here every Wednesday as you tend to have good pics (your article introduced me to Fancy Pants, thanks).
Hehe, i was just trying to stir you up Ben. I tried to access the site when the server was having problems as well
Looking forward to this Wednesdays... Heck that came around fast!
Carly,
