Webgame Wednesday: Tarnation
Tarnation is a funky little online strategy game. It takes a bit of working out but once you understand the process it’s very easy to play and, whilst starting off simple, quickly becomes a challenge.
Bugs made of tar, “Tars”, are attempting to pollute the garden’s water supply. A seed army stands ready to be transformed into flowers to defend the garden!
The main problem I had with the game was understanding the controls. Once you get it, it’s very simple, but waiting for it to first click is the problem. It probably doesn’t help that I didn’t read the instructions and just jumped into the game.
Basically what you have to do is draw boxes around your seeds. The corner you start drawing your box from denotes the colour of the seed, and therefore the colour of the tar it will attack.
The art is all in a Yoshis island chalky style which is quite a nice change from the vector/ pixel art you tend to get in flash games these days (not that I don’t like those).
With 11 levels the game is fairly short and should only take you a few goes to complete. Since there isn’t a huge possibility for variety with a game like this the length is more than adequate and it ends in the correct amount of time.
