Webgame Wednesday : Shift
Shift is a platform game with a literal twist from the Flash Ninja Clan.
You are a man, in a black and white world, and your objective is to get to the exit of each level – collecting the keys and avoiding the spikes. The hook is that you can invert your colour in turn flipping the world upside down and “climbing” into the other coloured world.
That’s a bad description and playing it will reveal the gameplay nice and quickly. Superficially the game reminds me of Nitromes Yin Yang, but that’s an easy comparison to make. In actuality it has a style and puzzle solving system all of it’s own.
There also seems to be a small amount of influence from Valves Portal – although I could be imagining things.
Visually the game is a bit of a mess, lacking polish, but making up for it in an attempt at personality. In terms of enjoyment though Shift works very well and is a nice waste of 10 minutes.
