Webgame Wednesday : Protector

Tower Defence and RPG all rolled into one? Protector tries so hard but doesn't quite get there. That is to say - it's not an RPG. However it is a Tower Defence game, and a fun one at that.

Protector is an isometric tower defence game. You have to place mages at various points on the map and use their abilities to destroy the oncoming foe. Each mage levels up as he gains experience and you can chose the skill path he follows (strength or more all round abilities). There are also a series of abilities and skills you can unlock as you progress giving you new spells or characters to use.

The graphics are very unusual for a TD game too. The isometric view is carried over from Role Playing Games, and the characters clearly had a lot of work put into them since there is a lot of animation and a lot of direction to draw them from.

The game is also quite a challenge. You have a map to complete with areas of varying levels of difficulty. The marathons in particular are a bit of a git. Protector is fun if you like a challenge.
