Webgame Wednesday : Magic Pen
Crayon Physics is fab - I’ve said that loads of times. Magic Pen is Crayon Physics - in a free Flash based online form. It’s also fab.
The inspiration couldn’t be more obvious with this one, and the physics work surprisingly well. Essentially the game is the same as it’s inspirational parent, but there are some control differences (eg click and hold to make a perfect circle) and some different puzzles. Having attempted physics in Flash I know how hard they are to write and, even though this is likely using a Flash physics library, they still work very well. The shape drawing/ detection is less good than Crayon Physics. Only convex shapes can be made, nothing complicated, but generally what you have is enough to solve the puzzles.
Visually the game is still crayon based, Magic Pen follows a more colourful route. I’m not sure which style I prefer - they both appeal to me in different ways - one thing I can say is that it’s not an ugly game.
One interesting thing I noticed, and I have no idea if this was intentional or not, is that you can add pins and hinges to the ball (or later on box), which can make for some interesting solutions to some of the puzzles.

it does point out in the instructions that you’re allowed to put pins and hinges on the ball, so I’d guess it was intentional.
Mr.Blobby.67 » good point well made
I think it’s a great little addition to the puzzle solving possibilities
