Webgame Wednesday : Endless Zombie Rampage - Zombies, Lot’s of them
Recently I found this browser game - Endless Zombie Rampage - and it sucked me in and wouldn’t let go.
It actually reminded me a lot of the game Jake mentioned recently - The Last Stand.
Like the Last Stand, this is a Defend your castle style game and, again like Last Stand, you are pitched against the ever increasing hordes of zombie scum. This is a slightly more traditional example of this sort of game in that there are vast amounts of weapons upgrades that you have to purchase rather than search for. You also don’t get the other survivors as help - you’re on your own to the end…
Another difference is the pace, Endless Zombie Rampage is more of a traditional shooter than the Last Stand. It’s a top down affair with you given full movement capabilities. The zombies come up from the bottom of the screen and will either target you or the pill box you are protecting. If either one looses all it’s health then it’s game over. Between levels you can restore health and upgrade weapons.
The weapons, and the sense of destruction are suitably satisfying. Each zombie you deal with leaves behind a spattering of viscera which keeps building up until you are fighting for your life in a sea of claret - it’s not nice (but then neither are zombies). The weapon reloading is suitably annoying and adds a great sense of tension on the later levels. Thankfully the upgraded weapons have shorter reload times.
The sound also deserves a mention, the weapons all sound different giving suitably shocking bangs, the splatter as the zombies disintegrate, and the atmospheric background all tie together brilliantly.
All round this is a lovely little time waster - well worth a try.
