Webgame Wednesday – Dolphin Olympics

Some recent comments here on Binary Joy got me thinking about dolphins... and then I remembered this. Dolphin Olympics was actually released last year, and is an interesting little game. It starts off quite challenging but once you get the hang of it you really get into a zen like state, and when you reach the upper reaches of the atmosphere you get a strange sense of satisfaction.

Dolphin Olympics is a game about a dolphin doing big jumping tricks. You have to launch yourself from the water, doing a somersault or two with some barrel rolls, and then enter at the perfect angle. The more jumps you do correctly in a row the higher you go until...

Controls are simple with just the arrows used to control everything, and there is a surprising amount of depth considering how simple the gameplay is.

In some ways it's a toy and it's a shame there is a time limit and score included. I'd really like it if there was a free play/ practice mode that removed all distractions and just let you jump around a lot.

Here's a link to an amazing video of a Dolphin Olympics run that scores 25 million. I won't embed it as I don't want to spoil the game, but if you want some tips this would be worth checking out. Reading the comments it sounds like a macro may have been used (I assume to keep doing the barrel roll) but I still like it :)

Dolphin Olympics is a nice little flash game that has a clean simple visual style and fills up a lunch break with some relaxing fish based goodness.
