Trism – iPhone game preview

Trism is the first game I have seen for the iPhone. On the surface it's YABCM (Yet Another Bloody Colour Matcher) but hiding under the casual façade is an interesting concept. You have to match up the colourful trianglar peices in groups of 3 or more. So far, so normal, the interest occurs when it's time to fill the space.

Instead of the blocks falling from the top, as normally happens, the blocks will slide into place depending upon the rotation of the iPhone. Through use of the iPhones accelerometers the game knows what angle you are holding the thing and makes them fall accordingly. This means you will need to rotate the game tactically to make sure you get the biggest combinations possible.

I do wonder if the game will end up being a bit of a gimmick. There are a lot of blocks on the screen, and it would be hard to calculate the best direction to turn, however without playing it I can't know - and it's certainly good that people are thinking of different things to do with the iPhone.
