The Endless Forest

I’m not sure how I missed this one but the Endless Forest is an mmo with no objective. It could also be called a screensaver (in fact that’s mentioned on the game page).

It’s a wonderfully peaceful little “game” with little more objective than relaxing, and talking to the occasional (slightly deformed) deer creatures. I must admit I find the deer with human faces slightly unnerving, the humanoid visage giving them a surreal - slightly unnerving - feeling.

The Endless Forest is a multiplayer online game and social screensaver, a virtual place where you can play with your friends. When your computer goes to sleep you appear as a deer in this magical place. There are no goals to achieve or rules to follow. Just run through the forest and see what happens.

There are a number of locations within the forest (a lovely lake and a mysterious ruin) but largely it’s just a very big forest.

There are some plans for the future of the forest, but in general this is a peaceful non violent antidote to the stresses of day to day life.

“Phase 3″ of Endless Forest has recently been released and it’s not a big download, at least compared to your average mmo, and is entirely free, so won’t take you long to try it.
