The Conduit - gameplay videos

The Conduit continues to improve and the publicity machine continues to spew out more information and videos. A lot of weight has been put on the technical achievements of the Conduit but really pretty much all of the features it contains are easily possible on every current gen console (ie PS3 and XBox 360). The Wii is the last to see these features and they’re looking great but I really hope the game is actually fun as opposed to a technical marvel.

One of the things I like is the developers attitude towards supporting the Wii’s features. For example the currently unavailable Motion plus and Wii speak features will be fully supported. The Motion plus features are said to be quite minimal in this first game but the sequel will make use of them in a much more complete way (sequel?).

As the trailer below shows - whilst the story might not be the most original the game definitely has some cool moments lined up.

The first level

If spoilers are your thing then IGN have pumped out a couple of videos showing the entirety of the first level. The person playing clearly knows the layout of the level, and the route through it, very well - but I think it’s showing a lot of potential.

I’ve read speculation on forums that The Conduit will tank at retail. They’ve built up hype but the average consumer will remain ignorant. I really hope this does well as it will help cement the Wii as a “serious” even, dare I say it, “hardcore” machine. It will also help fill the drought of decent games the Wii has been getting recently.

From what I have seen of the gameplay I am currently reminded quite a bit of the N64’s Perfect Dark which, apart from the last couple of levels (I never liked the whole alien ruins thing), was great fun. It wasn’t quite Goldeneye but it was the closest Rare have come to recreating the Goldeneye magic. If The Conduit is as good as Perfect Dark then I will be happy.
