There has been stacks of news about Spore recently. Most notably the release dates, and some actual previews of the game (that don't come from the developers).
The release date is September the 7th. There was no year specified but I think we can assume it's this one. Unfortunately there was no date announced for the Wii version, apparently it is still on so I would guess it will follow some time after the others.
More disappointment from the Nintendo camp - the DS version looks nothing like it's grown up counterparts - but initial impressions show promise. Hopefully the animation and actual gameplay will save it.
Hands on
There are journalists who have now played the actual game code and they are all coming back pretty positive - which is a very good sign. I always feel that long gestation periods seem to lead to disappointing outcomes (Black and White?).

Yep - it's a long time to wait, but EA have you covered. They are going to be releasing the creature editor before the game itself is released. There are no date of costs announced but nevertheless in my mind this is a good move - to get people talking and content being created.
