Simpsons Game

A new Simpsons game has recently been announced and, shock horror, it doesn’t look like it will be a shameless rip off of another franchise (Simpsons Hit and Run, and Simpsons Road Rage, I’m looking at you!) and, even more surprising, it has the potential to actually be good!

I’ve added a couple of videos below so that you can see what the game will be like. It appears to be a platform puzzle game with you taking the part of the four main Simpsons characters, Homer, Bart, Lisa, and Marge in trying to complete some quest or other (I’m a little light on story details… sorry).

Based upon what I have seen I think this new Simpsons game has the chance to revitalise the Simpsons on consoles. The last few (5 or 6) games have been nothing short of awful and I was very surprised when I saw how nice these videos look. At first I wasn’t sure about the toon shading look, but having watched it a bit more I’ve realised that actually it works perfectly. Whilst the flat look removes some of the depth (and possibly depth perception?) It does actually mirror the cartoons almost exactly making this the closest we are likely to get to playing a cartoon.
