SimCity Societies

Some new screenshots from the latest in the SimCity series, Societies, were released today. It’s looking quite positive.

In the last couple of games SimCity has become a little stale, it tends to just be more of the same with prettier graphics. This time around the game has been designed to be more accessible for people new to the series (I suspect inspired by the success of the Sims). Unfortunately this means that long time fans of the games are a little upset since it is removing a lot of the strategy and skill they enjoy. Personally I think it’s a good thing as I have never really enjoyed the micro management aspects of the series.

The new game also has a brand new shiny 3d look which at first looks rather low polygon, but when you realise how many buildings (and cars) are on show actually makes it all seem worthwhile. You can zoom out for the traditional view or get right up close and personal with the cities inhabitants.
