As I think I have mentioned before I am a big fan of the Burnout series of games. I love the sense of speed, and the crashes and carnage. The general over the top arcadeyness, so it was great to find out about the latest version of the Ridge Racer series – subtitled Unbounded.

This game features environmental and vehicular destruction – and loads of it.

You can see from the video below that the cars get properly wrecked (and thankfully this doesn’t seem to affect handling). The cars can also crash through most obstacles – which helps keep the action going and, despite being unrealistic, enhances the fun as it removes one of the larger elements of frustration in these games.

Something else that I haven’t seen mentioned anywhere else is that Ridge Racer Unbounded includes a complete level editor that allows you to create your own environments to race around, and then share them online. I’d be really interested to see videos of that as well as I know the online & modding communities can create some awesome content.

In the UK if you preorder Ridge Racer at or instore at Game then you will get additional vehicles added to the roster.

Anyway – check out the video – Ridge Racer Unbounded is going to be released on March 30th this year – and I’m looking forward to trying it out.
