Nintendo WiiWare/ Wii Software

Big(ish) news from the Nintendo camp today. Nintendo are setting up a new WiiWare channel on the Wii (named Wii Software in the UK). This channel will be the home for brand new downloadable games. It's going to be similar to the Virtual Console but with new content rather than old.

This is something I have been looking forward to for a while. The XBox 360 and Playstation 3 already have this feature so it's about time Nintendo caught up. The way I see it though, Nintendo will need to make some changes to their console. I think the rumoured Hard Disk Drive add on should become a reality, as 512 Meg just isn't enough for the average gamer, and the number of available slots on the Wii should be increased. Personally I haven't purchased many Virtual Console games (only FZero X so far) and I am not close to using the current disk space, but I have read about people who have filled both so it would be nice to be able to extend things.

Currently Nintendo have put out the call for independant developers to bring in their games and I am looking forward to seeing what smaller creative studios can do with the Wii hardware. I hope Nintendo let through the more arty/ creative/ unusual games.

They just need to figure out storage. 512 mb is not enough. And please don't tell me to buy more SD cards Nintendo. I want an external hard drive.
