More Rage
I recently published the trailer and now there’s an interview about id’s new game, Rage, over at Shacknews.
The screenshots below are from the Shacknews article. They are a little blurry and I’m guessing that’s because they’re photographs of a movie taken at Comicon, but they do show off some impressive technology – something id have never been short of.
The interview is huge and has lots of interesting info about id’s first foray into vehicle based games. I think it’s great that they are starting to emerge from the first person shooting pit they have housed themselves in for the last decade. It appears a lot of the gameplay elements are similar but they are trying different things.
Rage’s foundation, definitely, is first person shooter, because that’s what we do best. But we wanted to change what people expect from an id first person shooter. All our IPs offer something different–Doom is a dark and spooky corridor shooter, but this has larger environments, outdoor environments. In the game, I went through and wanted to do all the fun things in other games. I’ve always loved the settings of the post-apocalyptic worlds–Fallout, Road Warrior. I can talk about the setting later.
The outdoor technology is something they have traditionally been lacking in, with outside areas being fairly small and blocky, but now the exteriors are going to be vast, and you can race around them. It’s looking good. Very good.
