I have played a few of the Medal of Honor games in the past and have never been particularly impressed, they have always seemed to be rather too generic and lacking any soul. The levels are bland and uninspired and I have simply not enjoyed myself. For my money the Call of Duty games have always been a better bet.

However a new trailer for the latest Medal of Honor game (Airborne) has surfaced and it’s looking really good. Apart from the obvious visual updates Airborne has some new gameplay elements as well and, potentially, they could revitalise the genre or the series at least.

The big change? Parachutes!

At the start of each mission you parachute down into the place in which the mission is taking place, and the fall is controlled by you, which means you can start wherever you like. This means the levels and objectives must be open to a wide variety of solutions and encourages exploration. It also removes all the linearity that the series is known for, and makes every level attempt different increasing the life of the game.

To me this is all very exciting.

On the flip side, it’s yet another World War II game and these are getting a little stale now. I’d love to hear your thoughts?

When I played the first Medal of Honour there were no other games like it and it was really good. Then later I played CoD and was amazed. I even played the MoH mission packs but there weren’t as good although they gave me my WWII FPS Fix. CoD 2 is a great game btw.
