Knytt Stories

Knytt stories is the next game being released by Nifflas, the developer of the charming Knytt and Within a Deep Forest.

Little is know about the game, titled Knytt Stories (formerly Not Knytt), apart from the fact that the game will feature more of a story element than previous outings. The game is very close to being complete with only a few elements remaining, most of which are waiting on the work of other people. Currently the release is pencilled in for late summer, but this may changed based upon how quickly he gets the remaining media.

Based upon the screenshots Knytt Stories appears to have a very similar atmosphere to the original Knytt, which would be a very good thing. In a recent interview, hosted by Planet Freeplay, Nifflas spoke about how he concentrates strongly on atmosphere and loves games such as ICO and Shadow of the Colossus.

On the other hand, to me games are not that much about the gameplay though but more about the ambiance and atmosphere. Commercial games don’t often have much of that either (at least not an atmosphere that’s particularly unique for the game).
