Yeah it was great music, also on the Amiga. Actually the music is similar on the remake and they've done a good job.

Turrican was perhaps the best game on the C64, at the very least it's in the top five or so. I have played it. So. Much. Of course I'm wary of approaching a remake in fear of it shattering my sweet memories, but let's just say that I may need to boot the PC for the first time in some months to play a game.

I'm worried about the music though. The original had great music.

Oh, this Hurrican seems quite hard (or I've got lamer), also the controls are bugged. I selected Joystick but my joystick only has 4 buttons, so I selected some keys for the other weapons. BUT in-game, ONLY the joystick worked, the keys didn't! So I had to play with keys only to make use of everything. I'm hoping they'll fix this - I saw it mentioned on the forum in German.

This game has some extra weapons over the original such as the shockwave and grenades, and all the graphics for the weapons are done very nicely. It's a top notch remake. But I think I'm gonna hold off playing it properly until the control bug is fixed.

I'm just tooooo slow. I downloaded this last week and have played it a small amount (got to level 2) and have had it on my "news to post list" ever since. I really wanted to post this sob :-( because I completed the original Turrican 1 and 2 on C64 and Amiga and it's been my aim to make a Turrican style game ever since! I made various platform game attempts on the Amiga in Assembler and Blitz Basic 2 and more recently my Iron Fist game for PC. As well as the setting and the great graphics, what made Turrican good was that it was technically excellent with great scrolling and tons going on, and it pushed the machines to their limits. Also the levels were very varied. Remember those high speed spaceship ones anyone?

Hey Nic - Sounds like you're the person I was looking for when I wrote this. I must admit I wondered it you would comment, I know you've mentioned it before :) AFAIK the game is free so at least you won't have to spend any money. You'll have to let me know what you think.

I will have to comment on this one, since Turrican was one of the first games I actually bought, completed and completed again. That was on the superor gaming machine by the name of Commodore 64, and the remake seems remarkably similar to the original, down to the bouncy laser balls, massive side lasers to the first level boss which has the appearance of a massive cyborg fist.

Sure, the graphics are suped up on this version, and they may even challenge the Amiga version of the game. Let's just say this - a game that copies something this closely to the original is worth an extra mention. And to include the incomprehensible weapon that turns you into an invincible spiky ball shows the dedication to the cause.

Other highlights, of course, are the long underwater scenes, hidden blocks with goodies inside (two sizes, normal and super-sized), the tazer when fire is held and just manic gameplay mixed with huge levels to explore. The video doesn't show another part of the game, where you're equipped with a jet pack and take on the baddies in a weird shoot-em-up like scenario, but I'm sure it's in there too.

If the copy is even close to the original when it comes to level design, this will be a winner. I may even have to buy it. Damn you, Ben.
