De Blob – new video

De Blob started off as a single level Katamari Damacy game developed for course work at a university/ college. It was pretty quickly picked up by a large publisher and is now heading for the Wii. Unfortunately the release seems to have been postponed a and the game pushed back to 2009 (seems quite a jump to me), but there are some new gameplay videos to feast your eyes on.

As you can see from the footage. The game is clearly inspired by Katamari Damacy, but once you play it (you can see the original pc version here) you'll find it's only a passing resemblance. Rather than picking up objects you collect paint, and your objective is to colour the objects dotted around the cityscapes you find yourself within.

You can see more videos and some developer walkthroughs of the game over on Gametrailers.

I must admit the new game seems a touch darker/ less vibrant the original, and the Blob seems to be evil now which detracts from the original happiness, however I still find the game an intriguing prospect so am going to be watching for it closely. To add to that I always like to root for the little guy (indie developer) so hope it works out ok.
