Cletus Clay has been in development limbo for years – In fact I had almost forgotten about it. However this week a random blog post from Anthony Flack has prompted much excitement from those in the know.

Anthony Flack is best known for his shoot em up, Platypus, a claymation based game involving big vehicles and lots of gooey explosions. Personally I found the game to be too hard but the love and attention put into the game were very apparent and it was clear this was something a bit special. All this meant I was looking forward to seeing what came next from the house of Flack.

Cletus Clay actually started development about 5 years ago – and I have even played a very early demo (which is at least 4 years old now). Cletus Clay is a platformer involving a farmer rescuing his cows from aliens. The initial scope for the game was vast with many platforming levels, and stacks of mini games. I guess things got a bit too much for Anthony as he went radio silent for a few years, joining forces with Tunasnax and reworking things…

Since then, work has continued in relative secrecy – we have extensively re-designed the entire structure of the game, completely reprogrammed everything from scratch, added multi-player support and a whole lot of other features and reworked the graphics for HD. I’ve written design documents, made submissions, and harassed the programmers with unreasonable requests. Everyone has worked really hard to get us to where we are now and I do believe that what we have here is the beginnings of a pretty cool game.

You can read all the details over on the Cletus Clay blog.

It’s great to see that Cletus hasn’t died and knowing Anthony this is going to be a massive labour of love so it WILL be finished.

Yay for Ben & Binary Joy.

Indeed Cletus is still alive, very much so, but it’s still a bit of a beast – in fact, more than ever before!
