Avernum 5 = Awesome RPG
I’ve just finished the demo for Avernum 5. The demo lasted HOURS and is one chapter of a 9 chapter game. I’m about to buy this great game even though I know it’ll cost me dearly in terms of non-productive time spend playing it
The graphics aren’t much to look at (except for the nice art on the loading screens and story screens), the sound is minimal (and bugged - it goes really loud sometimes), the interface could be improved in a couple of ways BUT the depth of the RPG side of things is immense and fantastic! There’s turn based combat, a party of four, tons of different items to pick up, HUGE maps, tons of NPCs and side-quests - it’s really awesome. Plus it’s also got an interesting story.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed playing the demo and I’m sure I’ll love playing the rest of the game. I totally recommend you try it out if you love RPGs and are prepared to burn weeks of time on it.
Oh btw, it’s available for PC and Mac and is $28.

I totally agree. Except I have experienced no problems with the sound, it’s very atmospheric and helps me immerse myself in the game. I also have no problem with the interface.
This is a fantastic RPG - highly recommended.
