Things have been very quiet in the Assassins Creed DS camp, but lots of people are interested in it (myself included). It was first "announced" in a DS release schedule press release late last year. Since then the only sighting has been a release date mentioned on a US gaming store site.
Normally a lack of press coverage like this would mean 2 things, the game is crap, or they just don't care. The DS version is made by Gameloft who make a lot of portable games (including the mobile phone version of Assassins Creed). The quietness also seems to go against Ubisofts over the top pr for the full console version.
Anyway yesterday GoNintendo posted a scan of the box art for DS version.
From the box art scan we can tell that...
- The game has a subititle Altairs Chronicles
- The game will be a 3d action based one
- It's a prequel to the console version
- The stylus will be used for a variety of tasks (pickpocketing and interrogation being two)
Some of the wording seems a bit strange, for example on the back of the box it says "Prequel to the console version", which assumes people have heard of the console version (I would guess many DS owners haven't).
The screenshots are ridiculously low resolution but based on what I can make out Assassins Creed DS has a fixed 3d perspective and may even control like Zelda DS (which would rock). It's not long for release now either, since it's meant to be some time in February.
