There will be plenty of people getting a new Nintendo console for Christmas and wondering what to buy next. But whether you love puzzle games, platform adventure, action or sports there is an option for you on Wii U, Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 3DS XL. You just need to ask yourself: ‘what kind of gamer am I?’

For the Lateral Thinker

If puzzles are your thing and mystery is what you seek then there are plenty of options. For Wii U users, there are some great strategy titles including Pikmin 3 to look forward to and if you got a Nintendo 3DS or Nintendo 3DS XL recently you should definitely check out Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask. The latter brings all sorts of brain teasers to the handheld console and new mini-games are available every day through the Nintendo Network.

For the Action Adventurer

If you love action games, Wii U has plenty to offer. In the New Year, there are some fantastic shooting games to look forward to like Aliens: Colonial Marines and if martial arts are more up your street, be on the lookout for Ninja Gaid3en 3: Razor’s Edge. If you prefer handheld gaming, there are new releases including new Super Mario 2, Paper Mario: Sticker Star and Ben 10: Omniverse to try out with loads more to come in the future.

For Families and Friends

Multiplayer games are where Wii U really comes into its own, especially thanks to the incredible new GamePad which – alongside additional Wii Remotes – can see up to five players getting in on the action on some occasions. There is already Nintendo Land out there, but in 2013, you can expect to see even more titles to get families and friends up and off the couch including Sing Party. Of course, if you want to show off your moves, there is already Just Dance 4 to enjoy!
